Danshui is a seaside town near Taipei, easily accessible via the MTR. It has a nice and interesting promenade along the waterfront with a mixture of carnival-type arcade games like ring tosses and airgun shooting galleries, restaurants, and shops. There is also an old shopping street one block inland that parallels the promenade. The promenade also has piers for ferries across the inlet. This is certainly a nice and easy trip out of Taipei and worth a visit. I wish we had stayed longer, there are a number of other sights in Danshui that I would like to have visited but we didn't have time.
