I really like to shoot at night. Partly this reflects necessity. I have a day job, and when I travel, I rarely have the opportunity to get out and shoot when the sun is shining, because I am in some office somewhere.

But also I have learned to like shooting at night. I think the colors and lighting offer more possibilities for creativity, and I have come to enjoy the challenge of shooting handheld with minimal light.

Most of my night shots are with a Canon 20D, with the EF-S 17-55 f2.8 IS. Almost all of them are handheld. Lately I do most of my shooting at ISO 800, though in brightly lit neighborhoods, I will go down to ISO 400. I have found that with the image stabilization, out of 10-20 shots at 1/8 to 1/4 seconds, usually I will get at least one or two that are keepers.
