I have only been to Shanghai a few times. It is an interesting place, but so far I don't feel as much love for the place as I do for good old Beijing. It certainly is shiny, sleek and modern, but for some reason I don't find it as much fun or interesting to spend time there as Beijing. At least in my experience, the people aren't as talkative as they are in Beijing, at least with strangers. The food is better than in Beijing, though. No argument there.

Perhaps if I spend more time in Shanghai and learn more about it and meet more people I will develop some affection for it.
