For some reason, there was a lot of steam coming up out of the manholes at this intersection, so much so that the manhole covers were actually bouncing up and down and rattling. I gave them a wide berth, but not everyone else did. I wonder if perhaps Beijing has central steam and there was a leak in the supply near this intersection. One way or the other, it made for some interesting pictures.
